You Can Have Stronger Tooth Enamel by Adding a Fluoride Treatment to Your Dental Checkup

Posted .

Dr. John Ifantis’s regular dental checkup is designed to clean away hardened tartar and monitor the health of your mouth, watching for tooth decay. If they notices signs of weakened tooth enamel, they might recommend adding a simple fluoride treatment at the end of the appointment.

Exposing your teeth to fluoride helps restore the microscopic mineral crystals that make tooth enamel so strong. Your dentist can administer a fluoride treatment in just a few minutes.

Concentrated fluoride gel is poured into trays that are inserted in your mouth and held there for a few minutes. You should avoid eating or drinking for at least a half an hour to allow the fluoride to deeply penetrate the enamel of your teeth.

If your enamel erosion issues are severe, your dentist might also prescribe daily fluoride supplements. This usually comes in the form of a concentrated fluoride toothpaste or mouthrinse that you apply to your teeth right before you go to sleep each night.

You might also want to try using a brand of fluoride toothpaste to increase your daily fluoride exposure.

If you are due for your next checkup and you’re concerned about the strength of your tooth enamel, you should call Ifantis Dental Care at 847-268-4998 and ask about fluoride in Morton Grove, Illinois.
