Halloween Season and National Orthodontic Health Month

Posted .

October’s here and Halloween is on the way! That means fantastic fall activities, costumes, haunted houses, and of course, candy. We want all of our patients to enjoy their time with family and friends as much as they can. Since it’s now National Orthodontic Health Month, be sure to take care of your braces and to eat the right kinds of candies.

We want your braces to stay safe and for you to still enjoy the candy of this season, so we recommend staying away from candies that are bad for your braces. Candies that are hard, sticky, gummy, or chewy should be avoided.

This doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the candy you gather. You can safely have soft candies such as peppermint patties, candy bars, and peanut butter cups. Don’t risk a lifetime of a straight, beautiful smile for a moment of sweet candy now.

Also remember that cavities grow by exposure to sugar, so be sure to continue brushing and flossing your teeth. Good oral hygiene becomes an even more important habit to have when you eat more sugar than normal.
