Discomfort when you eat cold, sweet, or acidic things can drive you to abstain from some of your favorite foods, and beverages. You might find some relief from a toothpaste formulated with potassium nitrate. However, this will likely only provide temporary relief and could mask a more serious problem with the mineral strength of your tooth enamel.

To help alleviate long-term symptoms of tooth sensitivity, and prevent further complications, you should strongly consider having your tooth sensitivity diagnosed at Ifantis Dental Care. In many cases, the increased sensation in your teeth can be linked or related to a problem with the strength of your tooth enamel.

Should this prove to be the case, Dr. John Ifantis might recommend administering a fluoride treatment. This can typically be done at the end of your dental cleaning appointment. If heit’sinks its warranted Dr. John Ifantis might also include a prescription for daily use fluoride supplements.

These are available in several different forms including sublingual tabs, gels, or concentrated fluoride toothpaste and mouthwash.

An ingestible fluoride supplement needs to be taken as directed. If Dr. John Ifantis prescribes concentrated fluoride toothpaste or mouthwash you should apply them your teeth or rinse your mouth right before going to bed.

Ideally, you want to apply them to your teeth at a time when you can avoid eating or drinking anything for at least half an hour. This will allow the fluoride to fully saturate the microscopic pores in your tooth enamel.
